New BPSD Superintendent
Buena Park, CA – August 19, 2018 – The Buena Park School District Board of Education announced they have selected Dr. Ramon Miramontes as the finalist for the Superintendent position for the Buena Park School District. Dr. Miramontes, formerly serving as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, had been appointed as the Acting/Interim Superintendent of Schools for the Buena Park School District (BPSD) since July 1st. After an
extensive search process, led by the firm Leadership Associates, the Board chose Dr. Miramontes for his established instructional leadership roles across all levels from Pre-K to 8th grade, in addition to his strength in collaboration and focus on increasing student learning and achievement. The Board is set to approve his contract at their upcoming meeting on August 27, 2018.The Buena School community is fortunate to have such proven leader in education and champion for all students.
Dr. Miramontes has over 27 years of experience in public education. He has served as a classroom teacher, middle school assistant principal, elementary and K-8 principal, and director of personnel in school districts including Norwalk-La Mirada Unified, Fullerton, and the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE). Through his emphasis on student achievement, the accolades of the schools he has led include California Distinguished School, National Blue Ribbon School, and the first public International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program in Orange County. For the past 4 years as the Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services – an executive cabinet member of BPSD – Dr. Miramontes has proven instrumental in the development of diverse programs focused on student learning and achievement, curriculum, professional learning opportunities, technology, and college and career preparedness through best instructional practices, such as Reader’s Workshop, Writer’s Workshop, Balanced Literacy, and enhancement of student engagement through the Classroom Without Limits 1:1 iPad program. He continues to be the key agent for literacy development and has encouraged expansion of services in early childhood education and was pivotal in the District’s recent award of nearly $1,000,000 to offer additional preschool services to children and families within Buena Park. He is highly respected within the district and has built positive relationships with local civic agencies, and a strong connection to the North Orange County community.
Dr. Miramontes has a strong personnel background with experience in the recruitment, development and retention of certificated and classified employees, has demonstrated positive working relationships with bargaining units, and has led in the implementation of meaningful professional development and leadership programs for teachers, classified support staff, and management. He also established partnerships with local universities, such as Cal State University at Fullerton and Biola, to foster teacher preparation in effective literacy and instructional practices, developing upcoming educators into empowered teachers at schools throughout BPSD. Dr. Miramontes has a bachelor’s degree in education from Vanguard University, a master’s degree in education from Azusa Pacific University, and received his doctorate in educational leadership from USC. Dr. Miramontes is married with three children.

The Buena Park School District Board of Education was committed to a rigorous superintendent search process and to providing the community with clear and thorough input from the beginning of the search in May. The firm Leadership Associates was hired to conduct focus groups and community meetings in addition to gathering opinions via an online survey to obtain crucial input on the desired qualities of the next superintendent. Consistent themes shared included a person who held a deep passion for the teaching and learning process and the importance of educational technology, a leader who was approachable/accessible within the community and visible at school sites, a leader who could articulate a clear and consistent message, is a champion for all students and public education, who was collaborative and someone who could build trust within the community. More than 30 applicants applied for the position. He will begin his new role as Superintendent of the Buena Park School District on August 28, 2018.
